Finding the best cat flea treatment is all about personal choice. What you think is best depends on what you're looking for in a cat flea and tick medicine and of course how many fleas your cat comes into contact with. Personally I want a complete and long-lasting flea killer.
As much as I would love to use some herbal remedy or essential oils, all the research shows they rarely work to any significant degree and never for any length of time. That just does not offer the kind of thorough cat flea treatment I am looking for.
Finding the best cat flea treatment is pretty simple though. Any of the leading modern brands provide virtually 100% flea killing power and are guaranteed to work for a specified amount of time. Unless you want to be forever reapplying your cats flea medicine (or forever finding a new generation of fleas in the carpet) it is definitely worthwhile opting for a product with long-lasting capabilities. Or choose something equally proven to work but used more often, such as Capstar Flea Medicine.
Personally I dislike collars on cats (I know lots of people find them useful and perfectly safe) particularly with a cat which spends much of his time climbing around in the woods. For that reason alone I have never opted for a flea collar. And, with a cat determined never to swallow another tablet I have opted for flea drops (anything for an easy life).
Living in tick country I always opt for a combined cat flea and tick medicine which is guaranteed to provide continual coverage for over a month. That is the only way to ensure a cat which spends a lot more time out than in, remains flea free no matter how rarely I see him.
I believe Frontline Plus is the best cat flea treatment for my circumstances because it destroys fleas at all stages of their life-cycle and kills ticks too. In other areas where the ticks are not an issue I would probably go for Advantage Cat Flea Medicine as it is equally effective as a cat flea med (in fact it is actually fractionally faster acting) but as it doesn't tackle ticks is ever so slightly cheaper.
That being said I'm perfectly happy with Frontline as though it is usually a little more expensive (not by a significant amount) I tend to get 5 to 6 weeks coverage per application. Though in summer when fleas are most active this may fall to 4 to 5 weeks. Of course the best cat flea treatment for me, may do more than you actually need (indeed Frontline Plus seems to do just about everything).
